Final Narrative
Here is the final narrative that was submitted for the entry:
As people try to do more with mobile phones, they will run into more limits working with closed systems. Handset manufacturers will need to transition from a vertical model to a lateral one; from a hierarchical process to a collaborative one. This process lead to disruptive innovation. Disruptive, collaborative innovation allows handset manufacturers to exploit the power of the world’s best R&D lab: the hackers, freelance programers, and weekend D.I.Y.ers. These people are agile entities that can work separately but also as a vast viral network. Even a 100+ person research lab can’t compete with the thousands of passionate, enabled customers.
Once a collaborative relationship between manufacturers and consumers is firmly established, a slew of add-ons, features, and applications will emerge. This next wave of breakthroughs will give consumers the power to turn ideas into reality. So what will the mobile phone of the future look like? Just look at all of the entries into this competition. The phone of the future could be any of them, but with the coLAB, it will be all of them. That is what the coLAB system is all about: Empowerment. coLAB empowers people to be more than just consumers. They can be innovators, entrepreneurs, and social developers that can enhance their interactions with the world. With coLAB, they will truly have the power to Design the Future. It’s time to press the refresh button on the industry.
Features:
-Biodegradable polymers
-Wireless connectivity between individual components (even batteries)
-Modular (due to wireless components)

Final Submission!

With only 15 minutes remaining in the LG Design the Future competition, I finally finished and submitted my project board. The hardest part was trying to fit everything onto a single 1600×1600 jpeg. Nevertheless, the project is over and I am happy to post the final image along with the narrative. Final ideation sketches are soon to follow.
